{Instagram} Recap

If you have been following me on Instagram, you know I have been working hard, but enjoying some extra time with the kiddos this month. {They are both getting so big!!!} Here's a quick look at what we have been up to...

Two weeks ago, Nate and I went to go see Love Jones The Musical when it came to the DPAC with some of my co-residents. The show was really cute, and it was a lot of fun to dress up and go out!

I'm one week away from being back on a regular 7am-5pm type schedule, but until then, I have been soaking in the mornings with school drop offs and a chance to get to sleep in a bit.

However, last week was CRAZY. I was on call overnight on Friday, and it was extremely busy.

Four oncology admissions later...

Saturday morning I was wiped out. Poor Natey had been picked up early on Friday after having a fever and when he went to the doc on Saturday, the confirmed strep throat. My little brother also had a bad injury during his football game, and all I wanted to do was get back home and be with him and the rest of my family. {He's doing better, but we appreciate all prayers!} I was a tough weekend to say the least.

By Monday, Natey was well enough to get back to school. Isabelle, however, had a stomach bug out of nowhere, which culminated with her getting sick on the way to school, like vomit all over the backseat sick.

Of course, we had no available back up plan for child care and I had to be at work in the afternoon. Most of the time I can keep it together, but after the difficult weekend, I was emotionally spent. My mommy guilt was on 100 when I had no choice but to take Isabelle to daycare that afternoon. Thankfully, she was feeling back to her normal self within an hour of being home that morning, and practically asking me to drop her off by the time we had to go, but it still felt like a parenting fail. I shed more than a few tears that day.

The rest of the week was fine and everyone was back to being strep/bug free. Nate didn't have school Thursday or Friday due to parent-teacher conferences so the kids just stayed home the rest of the week. On Friday, we took the kids to the dentist. Isabelle watched her little brother get his cleaning like a champ and then she did great too! First cleaning, YAY!

Getting that dental care like a boss...

After I headed to work, Nate and the kids hung out and he went to our Parent-Teacher conference for Natey - which was great! So proud of him.

This weekend, we had our first round of interviews for the resident class of 2021. I say it every year I cannot believe we are interviewing already. This year is especially important for my class because we are choosing our interns for when we are chiefs(!!!). So crazy, I'm going to be a chief next year!!! The interview day was loooong, but a lot of fun sharing with the applicants why we love our program at UNC. I know Match Day will be here before we know it. Good luck to all of you out there starting your interview season!

In other news, today we got out to rock the vote Johnson style. Go vote!!! #withHer

Weekend Recap

Since my last update post, I have made my way through three different rotations...Ya'll, when I say this year feels like it is slipping right out of my hands, I mean it.

Besides the fact that my To Do list is growing, which has me in a bit of a panic, I am in awe of how far into this exhausting process called residency I am.

Friday, I worked on L&D as the intern, while our interns were able to get away for a much needed weekend retreat. It feels like it was just time for our intern retreat, and now we are helping to recruit the next incoming class for our chief year! Crazy!

Anyway, the third year residents are supposed to cover all the intern shifts on retreat weekend. Being the intern as a third year is way more fun than when you are the actual intern, but even as the fake intern, Friday was so busy. I came in to work Friday morning on the GYN service, and I just knew I would get to rest at some point, but I barely squeaked by with a 30 minute couch-nap in the board room.

After an exhausting call, we went (read: Nate drove) to go see my little bro and his football team take the "W" at Davidson College. He was awesome and it was a great game!

We spent the night in Charlotte after the game, but really, it was all a blur. All I remember is the delicious burger I ate for dinner and being in an instant coma when I got under the covers. There is no tired like Residency-tired, folks.

Sunday involved my usual routine of laundry, to-do list making, and finishing clinic notes left over from Friday.

Go Dawgs!

Nothing like a nap with biscuit in hand...

Hope Fall is treating you all well! I promise more content soon, especially for my Med Students and Med School hopefuls!

Weekend(s) Recap

So life is a bit cray cray right now since I am in the SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit). I have to be ready for sign out at the hospital at 5:30am and I get off around 6:00pm. It's not too bad, but by the time I get home, my functionality outside of eating dinner and vegging out with the fam is minimal.

So blogging has taken a hit, but I am still here. The last two weekends have actually been pretty awesome.

First of all, I finished nights!!! Friday morning our team went out for celebratory breakfast.

My awesome nights team
Then I headed to the airport to pick up one of my college besties from LA who was visiting for the holiday. Although we try and keep in touch, we hadn't actually been together since 2011.

When she got here it was like we picked up right where we left off.

I have always felt that her life was way more fabulous than mine - because it is. She works in entertainment and gets to rub elbows with the Hollywood In-Crowd. And of course, she brought some hipness to the Johnson house - including selfie stick usage, Snapchat {you can now follow me @MrsMommyMD}, pool party decorum, and celebrity gossip. Jokes aside,  she is one of the sweetest and most thoughtful people I know. It brought me so much joy that the littles got to spend time with Auntie Larissa...

Best. Nail. Salon. EVER.

Should have never given the Johnsons Snapchat
This past weekend, we had planned to go to Charlotte for Nate's Muscle Car Experience birthday present, but the Raceway over booked and now we have to reschedule - I was so bummed. Nate's mom also came to visit us and thanks to her, we were able to go on our first date, outside of the house, without the kids, IN A YEAR. I know...that is like the epitome of a marriage technical foul (I'm in basketball playoff mode). But it was great, we met up with some friends for dinner and then just hung out in downtown Durham talking and eating ice cream...shhh don't tell the kids.

Sunday, Nate and I went on a couples run and then we all went to the pool.

This coming weekend is my last call as a second year...Ya'll, I am almost halfway done with residency. If that doesn't deserve the celebratory Diddy gif, I don't know what does...

Alright, off to bed I go! xoxo

Weekend Recap

Hey folks!

Hope your week has been off to a great start. I am in week three of nights. One more week and I have no more nights rotations until I am a chief resident... Crazy, right?!?!

Anyway, the silver lining in this crazy month of nights is that I have gotten my Fridays and Saturdays off, and this weekend was great. Friday, little Nate did not have power at school so he got to stay home and hang out with me. That afternoon, I was able to get my hair done and then we picked up baby sis from daycare. The rest of the evening was super chill, and we had take-out Mexican dinner outside in the back yard.

Saturday, our neighborhood had it's annual Spring Fling and we enjoyed hanging out at the clubhouse and hitting the community pool for the first time this season! Isabelle is such a little fish. It's so funny because she tells her dad to "let go" of her when he is supervising her in the pool haha

Peep that peace sign while she swims... I can't with her

After a quick change we headed to find flowers for my new planters I got for Mother's Day. We ended up picking lilies and rose bushes for the front yard too.

We ended our night with dinner at our favorite Hibachi spot and snow cones for dessert! The weather had cooled off perfectly for planting all our new greenery before we headed in for the night....so fun!

I guess I am an official adult now, because planting flowers was my Saturday turn up...no shame.

I love summer!!!!

Weekend Recap: Wedding Memories

This weekend, Nate and I celebrated our six year wedding anniversary!! I cannot believe how the time has flown. Like any marriage, it hasn't always been sunshine and roses, but we have both grown so much in our relationship, and each year is sweeter than the one before. I can't imagine sharing this crazy life with anyone else.

We spent our day lounging around the house {my favorite thing} with the kids. I also had to work on my REI presentation for this week. Later, we had dinner in Durham at our favorite spot - Dame's Chicken and Waffles - which never disappoints.

Putting together this Flipagram of us was so great. It is always fun going back down memory lane...

We spent the rest of the night laughing about when we were dating, and looking at pictures and cards from my infamous "Nate the Boyfriend" box. I know....yes, I have a box of sentimental items from our dating days like those cheesy teen movies. I can't help it, I'm a sucker for love stories, ya'll.

Below are some of my favorite photos from our special day:

April 16, 2010

I tell people we "semi-eloped" because after our more than a year-long engagement, we decided a week before that we were ready and we did it! It was a small ceremony outside on the Canal at sunset attended by our immediate family (minus my little brother in DC at Georgetown) and some of my friends from school. After the ceremony, the Hubby surprised me with a carriage ride around the city and then to our "semi-reception" at Harry & Izzy's downtown. It was one of the most romantic and best days of my life.

We've decided for our 10 year anniversary, we will renew our vows with a BIG party with all of our family and friends. Can't wait! Here's to many, many more happy years...
