Deuces 2016!!!

Hope you all are having a beautifully reflective New Year's Eve.

I'll be ringing in 2017 on my 24 hour call catching the babies of Wake County ;-)

This week was tough, I returned to work after a month of research followed by family time during my vacation week and then Christmas. Our family had a beautiful Christmas. Isabelle has been hilarious in her new Jeep...

I feel so thankful to have had a productive and rejuvenating month, but it was like going back to school after summer vacation, the time FLEW.

I'm ready to attack this second half of my PGY3 year (!!!) and see what the Lord has in store for our family this year. I pray that you all experience a New Year filled with abundant blessings...

Last year, I avoided the list of resolutions thing and just resolved to be better - a better Christian, a better wife, a better mom, daughter, sister... I think that I kept it going all year but there is always room to be a better me, so I am going to take that with me into 2017. In addition to my 30 by 30 campaign because 2017 will also be the year of 30 year old Jasmine hotness :snaps:

Happy New Year Everyone...Please be safe out there tonight!

xoxo

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey Friends!

I hope you and your families are recovering from a wonderful holiday. We spent our Thanksgiving in North Carolina and it was wonderful. Nate's mom is here visiting and the kids have been in Grandma heaven all week...

On Wednesday, I had my last day on the GYN Consult service :praise Him: and I have been blessed to have the rest of my weekend off. You don't understand all of the JOY in my soul at this moment...

Wednesday night Nate and I started our cooking because we wanted to make sure dinner was ready at a reasonable hour...

Belle and I making the cornbread for the dressing
I made my "signature sides" - macaroni & cheese and dressing - both recipes are my Grammy's and were my absolute favorite foods to eat during the holidays growing up. Nate made the greens, green beans, and started the beef.

Thursday morning, we were back in the kitchen, and finished up dinner into the afternoon. The only things left to cook were the sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, ham, and frying the turkey. It all turned out great!

We even got our T25 work out in when we got up! Never, ever in life have I worked out on Thanksgiving. Felt great, but I'm pretty sure I've cancelled it out by the amount of food consumed yesterday - minor details, though, right? haha
Shaun T would be so proud...
Since moving to NC, we have spent every Thanksgiving in NC. Nate's mom has been able to make it down for the last two years which is something we really look forward to :-)

Now that we have spent quite a few holidays out here in NC with everyone else celebrating back home, I've come to realize that filling our home with friends helps to ease the homesickness. My heart goes out to all the peeps who can't go home for the holidays, and I am so thankful for the tribe we have here that have become family. We had some friends over from my job for Thanksgiving dinner too, and it turned out great! Our table, tummies, and hearts were full. It was also 75 degrees outside which is all kinds of amazing...

Backyard hangout after dinner in the amazing weather!

Today we are heading to get our Christmas tree! I love this time of year... Hope you all have a great day!!

P.S. I got a few inquiries about my Mac & Cheese recipe so here it is:

-------

Grammy's Homemade Macaroni & Cheese (makes one 1 large pan)

Ingredients:
2 boxes of elbow macaroni
2 medium-sized bags of mild cheddar
2 medium-sized bags of mozzarella cheddar
1 medium-sized bag of sharp cheddar
Milk (about 1.5 cups; will add to desired consistency)
3 sticks of butter
2 eggs
White pepper
Salt

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
2. Boil your macaroni noodles - no more than 10 minutes so the noodles don't get too soft
3. When the noodles are done, pour them into your aluminum pan and mix with a half of a stick of butter
4. Season the noodles to taste with salt and white pepper
5. In a large pot add a half a stick of butter and pour in milk to cover the bottom of the pan. Add your first bag of cheese and place on low heat to SLOWLY melt the cheese while constantly stirring
6. Add your two eggs to the cheese and stir into the sauce
7. Continue adding in your cheese, butter, and pouring in small amounts of milk to keep the consistency thick but easily foldable with the spoon until all the bags of cheese are used (I know this is super imprecise. I have never measure the amount of milk all these years. You probably will use no more than 1.5 cups of milk and one stick of butter for the cheese sauce)

8. Pour the cheese over your noodles and stir in until the cheese is equally distributed throughout the noodles in the pan
9. Cut four slices of butter and place on top of the noodles with cheese
10. Bake in the oven until the top is starting to turn a light golden

Enjoy!

Hey Strangers...

Yep. She still blogs...

After my birthday #SummerSixteen seemed like it flew by even faster than it came in. I'm happy to report that I survived the busiest service of third year. I still have to conquer two mini-blocks of antepartum (inpatient obstetrics) and 7 weeks of GYN-Onc, but I think I will be just fine.

Since leaving Wake Med, I have been on a rotation called Ambulatory Care Clinic (or ACC). ACC is just what it sounds like - I get to spend my days in the outpatient OB and GYN clinics. It has been great to learn how to run my clinic more efficiently, especially now that I am a big, bad third year and know a whole lot more about what I am doing...

The hours are also quite nice which has allowed time for other responsibilities - like working on my third year research project, meetings about interview season, tending to my self-care initiative (or lack thereof), and some much needed recuperation with our family. I feel like it took me two weeks before I felt like I was crawling out of the hole of exhaustion from Wake.

In Johnson news...

Natey started second grade! Isabelle is beaming with as much pride over him as we are.

Big Nate finally was able to live out his fantasy on the race track one weekend when our family visited the Charlotte Motor Speedway. And I am sure his fantasy all those years ago included being at a racetrack with his two kids haha!

Back when he was just a teenager with a Mustang :-D

And we completed the fasted (and longest) road trip in history over Labor Day weekend when we went to Detroit for Nate's mom's birthday party:

And then afterward hit the road again to see my parents in Indiana. Something about the familiar spaces at home that seem to put everything back into alignment. I needed it. An added bonus was that  my brother josh, his girlfriend, plus my uncle and his family all came up for the day too!

Seeing your babies in the place you grew up gives you all the warm fuzzies...

So happy I got to see my sweet Samson

And my sweet middle brother came to see us
Josh and Bridget xo

Backyard fishing with my dad (Grampy)

We will talk about my child's sass at another time...

Thanks for bearing with me, still reading, and indulging in my photo dump...

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Happy New Year!

Along with our Christmas cards,  I would help my mom write "The Ransones :Insert Year Here:" to share our year in review with our loved ones. At that time, I thought it was ridiculous, but now that I have a family (and blog, albiet neglected) of my own, I could see myself starting this tradition. So without further adieu...

The Johnsons: 2015

Nathan:
2015 was a milestone year for Nate. In April he turned 30!!! This year he also grew a sexy beard ;-) He continues to inspire me daily as he is always working to make himself a better person - whether it's with clean eating and exercise, putting his needs last to make sure me and the kids are happy, or just constantly reading and learning new things. Some of those "new things" include: building an electric smoker so he can slow-cook meat and control the temperature away from home - yes, this happens, discovering new places around town, and french braiding Isabelle's hair.

This week Nate lost his Grandmother - an amazing woman who was blessed to see 101 years. Please pray for him and his extended family's strength during this time.

Rest in heaven, MoDear

Jasmine:
Shortly after my last blog post in October, I lost my grandmother. Since then, the pangs of homesickness are more present than not. It is my first time losing a grandparent and even though we knew time was fleeting, I just wasn't ready. Can you ever be? Before she died I told myself that we would finally make it back to Michigan to see her by January. Little did I know, I did not have that kind of time.

The rest of 2015 was a blur. I took out my first uterus. I started exercising...for a bit (haha). I became an "upper level/chief" on one of the busiest services of our program. I started talking to mentors regarding big decisions in my professional life. But I also decided that "I have to work" would no longer be an acceptable excuse for not calling, writing, or visiting those I love when I can. 2016 I am going to do so much better.

Rounding out the first half of second year has been incredibly better from a family-work balance perspective in comparison to where I was this time last year.  I tried to be as present as I could in all the moments at home.

My angel Grandma Wilhelmina

Nathan II:
2015 meant the end of Kindergarten and the start of first grade at a new school for our Deuce. And in January he turns SEVEN. I will just let that marinate for a minute... He continues to show an aptitude for building - just like Dad. And this year, Nate (what he wants everyone at school to call him now) became a writer. His class did a unit on telling their narratives, and at parent-teacher conferences his teachers showed me his growing collection of short stories. I was already so proud, but seeing him love something that brings me joy was awesome. His dad bought him a leather bound journal this year, and he hasn't looked back.

He has also discovered sarcasm. Stating "that was sarcasm if you didn't know" when he tries it out. This kid.

Nate continues to be an amazing big brother - even though Isabelle's main goal these days is to test all the little sister limits.  And we can't forget his dancing. He can pop, lock, whip, and 'nae-'nae with the best of them.

Isabelle:
Miss Isabelle is such a little lady these days. Sure, she enjoys picking out her hair accessories and taking care of her baby dolls - which she has lovingly named "Baby Wow" and "Baby Mommy" - but she also adores her older brother who has her puddle jumping and karate-kicking regularly.

She loves reading, singing, and dancing as much as Nate. Her vocabulary has grown exponentially and she never runs out of kisses and hugs. Even at two, she understands the importance of family - asking to call her grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins frequently. I don't know what we ever did without her. She is such beautiful girl, inside and out.

Thank you to all of our loved ones and friends who have shown more unwavering love and support in the form of prayers, encouraging words, and deeds than we could ever repay. You don't know how thankful we are for each and every one of you. 2016, we're ready!
